FAQs

What Is SPC Flooring?

SPC flooring, also known as Stone Polymer Composite flooring, is a type of luxury vinyl flooring that features a stone-polymer composite core that greatly improves the floor’s durability compared to regular luxury vinyl flooring. SPC flooring has three main layers: the SPC core, the design layer, and the wear layer. The SPC core provides enhanced durability, the design layer mimics the appearance of various stone or wood colors and patterns, and the wear layer serves as a protective coating that makes the floor dent and scratch-resistant.

Its low cost makes it an excellent choice for commercial properties, where safety is a crucial factor. SPC flooring is also environmentally friendly, as it can be recycled after use.

SPC flooring is also easy to maintain. It can be cleaned with a damp mop and a bit of wax, keeping it bright and shiny. Unlike vinyl, it does not warp or expand when exposed to moisture, making it a good choice for commercial environments and homes. Damaged pieces can also be removed and replaced individually, saving the cost of replacing an entire flooring installation.

SPC flooring is also environmentally friendly. Its materials are not toxic, and they are made of natural materials. It is eco-friendly because it contains no volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It means that it is safer for the environment.

Its durability and ease of maintenance have made SPC flooring a popular choice worldwide.

The Pros and Cons of SPC Flooring:

Pros:

  • Ultra-durable and scratch/dent-resistant
  • Very stable, does not react to temperature and humidity changes
  • Completely waterproof surface
  • Wide range of styles and looks
  • Affordable compared to wood flooring
  • SPC flooring doesnā€™t contain formaldehyde like many WPC products do
  • Slightly more eco-friendly than PVC flooring

Cons:

  • More expensive than ordinary LVP. If you want the best flooring, donā€™t expect to find it in the bargain bin. Flooring is one of those things that you get what you pay forā€”and SPC isnā€™t much different. The good news is that this still places the cost of SPC flooring beneath the average cost to buy quality wood flooring.
  • Not entirely eco-friendly

SPC Flooring Still Isnā€™t 100% Eco-Friendly

SPC flooring, is made from a combination of stone powders and PVC. While the stone powders used in SPC flooring are generally considered to be non-toxic, the use of PVC in its construction means it may not be 100% eco-friendly option.

If environmental sustainability is a key concern for you, alternative options such as sustainable wood flooring may be a better fit.
