Tips to keep in mind when maintaining and cleaning your composite decking

To maintain and clean your composite decking, follow these guidelines:

  1. Regularly sweep or blow leaves and debris off the deck to prevent staining or mold growth.
  2. If there are spills or stains, clean them up immediately with mild soap and water or a composite deck cleaner. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or pressure washers, as they can damage the surface of the decking.
  3. If the deck is looking dirty or faded, you can use a composite deck cleaner specifically formulated for this type of decking. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for best results.
  4. If you notice mold or mildew on the deck, clean it with a solution of 1 cup of bleach to 4 litres of water. Rinse the deck thoroughly with water after cleaning.
  5. To prevent fading, it’s a good idea to keep your composite deck out of direct sunlight as much as possible.
  6. Check for any loose boards or hardware and make sure everything is tightened up to keep your deck safe and secure.
  7. In the winter, it is important to remove snow and ice from your composite deck, to prevent damage or injury.
  8. To maintain the aesthetic appeal of your deck, you can apply a composite deck sealer every 2-3 years, as per manufacturer’s instructions.

  1. To remove tough stains, such as oil or red wine, use a composite deck cleaner specifically formulated for removing these types of stains.
  2. If your decking has a lot of moss or algae growing on it, use a moss and algae remover to clean it. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s  instructions and rinse the deck thoroughly with water after cleaning.
  3. If your decking has become discolored or faded over time, you can use a composite deck brightener to restore its original color. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for best results.
  4. To prevent staining or discoloration from planter pots or flower pots, place saucers or trays under them to catch any water or dirt that may leak out.
  5. To remove scuff marks or black heel marks, use a magic eraser or a solution of equal parts water and white vinegar.
  6. To remove any mildew or mold, use a solution of one cup of bleach to 4 litres of water, and then rinse the deck thoroughly with water.
  7. If you have pets, it’s a good idea to clean up any urine or feces as soon as possible to avoid staining or discoloration.
  8. If you have a pool or hot tub on your deck, be sure to use a pool or spa decking cleaner to remove any chlorine or chemical stains.
